Easter Holy Week, during this week you will have the opportunity to see and enjoy the colorful religious processions that many towns have. The dates vary annually but just about all businesses will often close for the entire week before Easter weekend.

New Year’s (January 1) is celebrated with a big dance in San Jose’s Central Park.

Christmas and New Year's holiday celebrations.

Christmas Day (December 25). During this holiday there are many Family-oriented celebrations which include trips to the beach. And traditionally there are a lot of consumption of apples and grapes.

Dia de la Raza (Columbus Day) on October 12th:  Limon province only, marked by carnival, which take place in the week prior to October 12.

Guanacaste Day. On July 25 many towns in the province of Guancaste celebratethe annexation of Guanacaste from Nicaragua in 1824

Independence Day. On September 15, the Costa Rica celebrates with patriotic parades its independence from Spain in 1821.

Virgen de los Angeles Day.  On August 2 there is a nationwide pilgrimage and processions to the provice of Cartago.
