Music of Costa Rica

A lot of the music of Costa Rica reflects African, even pre-Columbian, as well as Spanish roots. The country is one of the southernmost of the "marimba culture" countries, although the African-derived marimba (xylophone) music of Costa Rica is more elusive and restrained.

The guitar, too, is a popular instrument, especially as an accompaniment to folk dances such as the Punto Guanacasteco, a heel-and-toe stomping dance for couples, officially decreed the national dance.

On the Caribbean coast music is profoundly Afro-Caribbean in spirit and rhythm. There are numerous radio stations in Costa Rica many of them play Spanish only music, such as salsa, merengue, and seem very traditional of the country, there are other radio stations that will plays any popular Spanish music at the moment among other Latin American nations, and also you can find radio stations with  popular English songs as well.
